It is the policy of the Education Program to adhere to the NYS Laws and Regulations for school bus drivers, monitors, and attendants.

Student Loading and Unloading Procedures

According to regulatory guidelines, the driver of every bus shall keep such red signal lamps lighted whenever passengers are being received and discharged or whenever he has stopped within fifty feet to the rear of a vehicle with such red signal lamps lighted, and shall light all other signal lamps, as a warning, prior to stopping to receive or discharge passengers. Please note: the above applies on private roads, parking lots, and school grounds, as well as public roadways.

Bus Driver's Role in Permitting Motorists to Proceed Through Flashing Lights

Please note that there are fines for motorists convicted of passing a stopped school bus. Passing a stopped school bus is a five-point violation.

Medical Absence/Clearance To Return to School

Absences due to medical reasons will be monitored by the nursing department. It is the policy of the Education Program that all children who have been hospitalized or have been absent for 10 days or more, due to medical concerns, must have clearance from a private medical doctor to return to program.

Parent Access and Review of Medical Records

It is the policy of the Education Program that, upon request, a parent may obtain an appointment with the staff physician or Director of Educational Services (Records Review Officer) to review his/her child's chart which is located in Medical Records.

Information contained in a Medical Chart, shall be considered confidential. Parents are informed of their right to review their child's chart via an annual parent letter and Center Post publication. Any and all information documented by staff concerning or relating to a child's program while enrolled at UCP may be reviewed by a parent.

Medical Documentation

The Children's Center at UCP requires having a student's medical status in order to provide a safe and appropriate educational plan. Upon a child's entering our program, it is the Social Worker's responsibility to apprise the parent(s) of the required need for any/all medical records that are pertinent to providing a safe and appropriate educational plan. Parents are requested to provide on an annual basis updated medical information that assists in providing a safe and appropriate educational plan for their child.
